Recent Increases in Exposure to Extreme Humid‐Heat Events Disproportionately Affect Populated Regions

چکیده

Extreme heat research has largely focused on dry-heat, while humid-heat that poses a substantial threat to human-health remains relatively understudied. Using hourly high-resolution ERA5 reanalysis and HadISD station data, we provide the first spatially comprehensive, global-scale characterization of magnitude, seasonal timing, frequency dry- wet-bulb temperature extremes their trends. While peak extreme occurrences often coincide, timing differs in climatologically wet regions. Since 1979, have become more frequent over most land regions, with greatest increases tropics Arctic. Humid-heat increased disproportionately populated regions (∼5.0 days per-person per-decade) relative global land-areas (∼3.6 per-unit-land-area population exposure at faster rate than dry-heat. Our study highlights need for multivariate approach understand mitigate future harm from stress warming world.

Active Distribution Networks Restoration after Extreme Events

After extreme events such as floods, thunderstorms, blizzards and hurricanes there will be devastating effects in the distribution networks which may cause a partial or complete blackout. Then, the major concern for the system operators is to restore the maximum critical loads as soon as possible by available generation units.  In order to solve this problem, this paper provides a restoration s...

Role of quasiresonant planetary wave dynamics in recent boreal spring-to-autumn extreme events.

In boreal spring-to-autumn (May-to-September) 2012 and 2013, the Northern Hemisphere (NH) has experienced a large number of severe midlatitude regional weather extremes. Here we show that a considerable part of these extremes were accompanied by highly magnified quasistationary midlatitude planetary waves with zonal wave numbers m = 6, 7, and 8. We further show that resonance conditions for the...

Climate Change Impact on Precipitation Extreme Events in Uncertainty Situation; Passing from Global Scale to Regional Scale

Global warming and then climate change are important topics studied by researchers throughout the world in the recent decades. In these studies, climatic parameters changes are investigated. Considering large-scaled output of AOGCMs and low precision in computational cells, uncertainty analysis is one of the principles in doing hydrological studies. For this reason, it is tried that investigati...

Climate Change Disproportionately Increases Herbivore over Plant or Parasitoid Biomass

All living organisms are linked through trophic relationships with resources and consumers, the balance of which determines overall ecosystem stability and functioning. Ecological research has identified a multitude of mechanisms that contribute to this balance, but ecologists are now challenged with predicting responses to global environmental changes. Despite a wealth of studies highlighting ...

Reactions to extreme events: moving threshold model

In spite of precautions to avoid the harmful effects of extreme events, we experience recurrently phenomena that overcome the preventive barriers. These barriers usually increase drastically right after the occurrence of such extreme events, but steadily decay in their absence. In this paper we consider a simple model that mimics the evolution of the protection barriers to study the efficiency ...
